On his 20th birthday on 21st October 1990, a quarrel broke out between their parents and Brij shot everyone in the house in a drunken state including Kamal, Namrata and Sayeeda & then Brij committed suicide using the same gun. Only Kamal Sadanah, who was shot in the back of his neck survived this tragic incident. According to some reports, the main reason of the quarrel between his parents was Namrata's relationship with Abis Hasan Rizvi, who was a muslim and Brij, who was already in a stress due to his failing projects and monetary losses didn't wanted her daughter to get married with a man from a different religion. 3 | |

Kamal Sadanah got married to make-up artist Lisa John on 1st January 2001. They have two children together, a son Angath Sadanah and a daughter, Leia Namrata, who was named after Kamal's late sister. His production company 'Angath Arts Private Limited' is named after his son. The couple has separated now and now Lisa lives in Goa with her parents and Kamal is staying in Mumbai. They officially filed for the divorce in 2021. Speaking about the divorce, Kamal said, "Two people grow apart and go in different directions.
