Shafali Verma is an Indian international cricketer who plays as an opening batter. She bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off-break. Verma represents Haryana in domestic cricket and plays for Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Shafali was born on January 28, 2004, into a middle-class Sunar Hindu family to Sanjeev Verma, a jeweler, and his wife Parveen Bala in Rohtak, Haryana, India. She has an elder brother named Sahil Verma and a younger sister named Arti Verma. 1 2 3 4 5 6
She attended Mandeep Senior Secondary School, Rohtak, Haryana.
At the age of nine, Shafali decided to become a cricketer after her father took her to a stadium in Rohtak to watch Sachin Tendulkar play his final Ranji Trophy innings. To gain admission into a cricket academy, Shafali had to disguise herself as a boy because there were no cricket academies for girls in Rohtak. 7 8 8
Shafali made her international debut at the age of 15 in a WT20I match against South Africa Women in Surat on September 24, 2019, becoming the youngest Indian woman to play in a WT20I match. Despite a forgettable debut, where she was dismissed for a duck, she quickly made a mark. 9
On November 9, 2019, Shafali scored a quickfire 73 runs off 49 balls against West Indies in a WT20I match in Saint Lucia, becoming the youngest half-centurion for India in international cricket. 10
Verma made her Test debut on June 16, 2021, against England in Bristol, where she scored 96 runs in India’s first innings and 63 runs in the second innings. Her performance was instrumental in securing a draw for India, and she was named Player of the Match. 11
Shafali made her ODI debut at the age of 17 years and 150 days against England Women on June 27, 2021, in Bristol, becoming the youngest Indian cricketer of either gender to represent the Indian team in all three formats. 12
In the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction, she was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore. 13
In April 2023, she was awarded a BCCI central contract worth ₹30 lakh in the Grade B category. 14

On June 28, 2024, Shafali Verma smashed the fastest women’s Test double century against South Africa in Chennai, reaching her double ton in just 194 deliveries. She broke the previous record held by Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, who achieved the feat in 248 balls. Verma also became the second Indian, after former captain Mithali Raj, to score a double century in Test cricket. 17
