Prem Chopra is a legendary indian actor known as one of the greatest villain ever in the history of Indian cinema. He worked in approximately 400 movies in hindi and punjabi language.
Prem Chopra was born on September 23, 1935 to Ranbirlal Chopra and Rooprani Chopra in Lahore, Punjab, British India. He was the third child among six siblings. After the partition, his family moved to shimla.
His father Ranbirlal Chopra was a high-ranking Government official and he wanted Prem Chopra to join the Indian Administrative Services. But Prem always wanted to be an actor and he regularly took part in college dramatics.
After completing his graduation, Prem came to Mumbai and started working in the circulation department of the Times of India. Simultaneously he also began working in the film industry, it was only after he got recognition for his role in Upkar (1967), he quit his job in the Times of India to concentrate on his acting career.
Prem Chopra made his bollywood debut with Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh (1960), starring Bharat Bhushan. This film was a box-office failure.
In the same year he starred in punjabi movie Chaudhary Karnail Singh (1960) opposite actress Jabeen Jalil. The film won a National Award and Prem was also noticed. Prem Chopra was paid Rs 2500 for his role in the movie.
In 1970, he played the main lead in the movie "Samaj Ko Badal Dalo" opposite Tamil actresses Kanchana and Sharada. The movie was a box-office hit and its song "Tum Apni Saheli Ko Itna Bata Do Ki Usse Koi Pyar Karne Laga Hai" is still popular. 1
His sister, Anju Chopra got married to Deepak Dumra on December 6, 1971.
He got married to Uma Chopra, who is the younger sister of Krishna Kapoor (Wife of actor Raj Kapoor), Prem Nath, Rajendra Nath and Narendra Nath in 1969.
Prem Chopra is also the brother in law to actor Raj Kapoor as his wife Uma Chopra is the younger sister of Raj Kapoor's wife Krishna Kapoor.
He has 3 daughters, Prerana Chopra Joshi, Punita Chopra Bhalla and Rakita Chopra Nanda. Sharman Joshi, Vikas Bhalla and Rahul Nanda are his respective sons-in-laws.
His daughter, Punita runs a school, Prerana is an artist and Rakita is a graphics specialist.
All three of his son-in-laws are associated with the film industry. Rahul Nanda is a leading publicity designer & Sharman Joshi and Vikas Bhalla are actors.
Prem Chopra revealed in an interview that all three of his daughters got a lot of offers from bollywood but they were never interested in acting. It was more because they are very shy.
On August 15, 1993, Prem represented India as Grand Marshall in Chicago during the Independence Day Parade. There he was honored as the 'Honarary Citizen of Chicago' by the Chicago Mayor and was also felicitated by the Federation of Indian Association with an award for his outstanding contribution to humanitarian causes and enriching the Indian community in India & abroad.

He worked with Rajesh Khanna in 19 films of which 15 movies were hits and 2 movies Waapsi and Bebus never released.
His biography titled Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra, written by his daughter Rakita Nanda and published by Rupa Publications was released in April 2014.
He currently lives in 14th floor duplex apartment in Pali Hill, Bandra in Mumbai.
Rakesh Roshan and Jeetendra are his close friends.
In January 2022, Prem Chopra and his wife Uma Chopra, were admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on Monday after testing positive for COVID-19. 2
