Prem Chopra was born on September 23, 1935 to Ranbirlal Chopra and Rooprani Chopra in Lahore, Punjab, British India. He was the third child among six siblings. After the partition, his family moved to shimla. | |
His father Ranbirlal Chopra was a high-ranking Government official and he wanted Prem Chopra to join the Indian Administrative Services. But Prem always wanted to be an actor and he regularly took part in college dramatics. | |
After completing his graduation, Prem came to Mumbai and started working in the circulation department of the Times of India. Simultaneously he also began working in the film industry, it was only after he got recognition for his role in Upkar (1967), he quit his job in the Times of India to concentrate on his acting career. | |
