Koena began her career as a model while still in school and won the Gladrags Mega Model India title in 2001. She represented India at the Miss Intercontinental Pageant in Germany, where she made it to the Top 12. 4
She trained with the Mamata Shankar ballet troupe for 12 years. 5
Koena Mitra was in a long-distance relationship with Mette Merral, a Turkish pilot, and the duo intended to marry. However, their relationship ended on a bitter note due to Mette’s possessive nature. 6
Koena made her first movie appearance at the age of 18 in the item song “Khullam Khulla” with Ganesh Acharya for Ram Gopal Varma’s 2002 film “Road”, starring Vivek Oberoi, Manoj Bajpayee, and Antara Mali. 7
Her acting debut came in Sanjay Gupta’s 2004 film “Musafir”, starring Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Sameera Reddy. The song “O Saki Saki” from the movie was a massive hit, and Koena is still remembered as the “Saki Saki girl”. 7
In 2005, she starred in the films “Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena” and “Insan”. She also played Ritesh Deshmukh’s love interest in the 2006 comedy film “Apna Sapna Money Money”, directed by Sangeeth Sivan.
Koena participated in the stunt-based reality show “Fear Factor India” in 2007, where she was a finalist. She also entered as a wild card contestant in the dance reality show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3” in 2009 but was eliminated soon.

Koena was set to make her Hollywood debut in 2012 opposite Kevin Sorbo in the film “The Story of Naomi”, directed by fashion photographer Ash Gupta and produced by Michael Hirshenson. A lip-lock scene between Koena and Sorbo was leaked, but the movie was eventually shelved. She had also signed two more Hollywood projects with producer Karen Armstrong—a film titled “Dark Romance” and another untitled project alongside Miles O’Keeffe of “Tarzan” fame but both were also shelved. 9
Besides acting, Koena has featured in several music videos, including “Akh Teri” by Manmohan Waris, “Channo Da Jawani” by Jasbir Jassi, and “Ishq Ho Gaya” by Stereo Nation.

In 2019, Koena was sentenced to six months in prison in a cheque-bouncing case. According to reports, the actress borrowed ₹22 lakh from model Poonam Sethi over a period of time. A few months later, she gave Sethi a cheque for ₹3 lakh as part of the repayment, which bounced. Following this, Sethi sent a legal notice to Koena on July 19, 2013, and later filed a complaint in court on October 10, 2013. 10
