Jigna was working as an intern with a law firm when her parents fixed her marriage with Suresh Mehta, who claimed to be an engineer and owning a printing press in Gujarat. Vora began her career in media as a court reporter in 2005 at the Free Press Journal (FPJ) before joining Mumbai Mirror. Jigna Vora’s life and promising career came to a standstill in 2011. She was 37 years old and was working as a deputy bureau chief at the Asian Age’s Mumbai bureau. She was one of the two main suspects in the murder of senior crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, who was murdered by members of the Chhota Rajan gang on 11 June 2011 near his house in Powai. Jigna was accused of instigating Chhota Rajan against Dey by sending him articles written by Dey through emails and was also suspected of providing the shooters with details such as Dey’s bike’s license plate number, his office, and residential addresses. Vora denied all the allegations and said that she communicated with Chota Rajan just for an interview. On 25 November 2011, Mumbai police arrested Jigna Vora from her Ghatkopar home for her alleged role in the murder. After spending nine months in prison, she was granted bail by a special MCOCA court on 27 July 2012 with a condition that she would not discuss the case with the media or anyone except her lawyer. She was acquitted of all charges by the special MCOCA court on 2 May 2018. 5 | |
