Ashish Nehra is a former indian cricketer and current coach of Gujarat Titans in IPL. He represented India as a left-arm medium-fast bowler from 1999 to 2017 and picked 157 wickets in ODI, 44 wickets in Test & 34 wickets in T20I matches.
He was born on April 29, 1979 to Diwan Singh Nehra and Sumitra Nehra in Delhi.
Nehra retired from all forms of cricket in November 2017. T20I match against New Zealand on 1 November 2017 at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground was his last appearance.
In 2022, he was appointed the head coach of the newly formed Gujarat Titans team in IPL.
He made his international debut in a Test match against Sri Lanka on 24 February 1999 at Colombo. He picked 1/94 in the first innings and the rain affected match ended in a draw.
Ashish made his ODI debut on 24 June 2001 against Zimbabwe at Harare. He picked 2/33 in his 10 overs and India won the match comfortably by 9 wickets.
He made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka on 9 December 2009 at Nagpur. He ended with a dismal figure of 1/52 in his 4 overs as india lost the match by a margin of 29 runs.
On 26 February 2003, Nehra took 6/23 in a match against England in ODI World Cup and helped india to win the match by 82 runs. This match remains a highlight of his career and it is also the best bowling figures for an Indian in ODI World Cup.
Nehra was a part of the Indian team that won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
He represented 5 different franchises - Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In 2008 IPL Auction, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for ₹1.6 crores but was transferred to Delhi Daredevils in 2009 for the next two years.
Pune Warriors bought Nehra for ₹3.91 crores in the 2011 IPL Auction but they transferred him to Delhi Daredevils in 2013.
In 2014 and 2015, he was a part of the Chennai Super Kings who bought him for ₹2 crores in the 2014 IPL Auction. After Chennai franchise was banned from the IPL for the next two years, he moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹5.5 crores.
Ashish Nehra saw Rushma in the stands during India's match in England (The Oval), in 2000 and it was love at first sight for him. They dated for several years before finally getting married on April 2, 2009. The couple has been blessed with 2 children: a son, Aarush Nehra and a daughter, Ariana Nehra.
He is the only indian to take 6 wickets in an ODI match twice.
In an interview, Nehra revealed that during his early cricketing days, he used to practice at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi and used to sit behind Virender Sehwag's scooter for commuting to the stadium.
He is not tech savvy person and he neither uses a smartphone and nor he is active on social networking sites. He has a verified instagram profile but has not posted anything there.
The fastest ball that he ever bowled was 149.7 KMPH (93 MPH) against Zimbabwe in the 2003 World Cup, South Africa.
He was once caught on camera abusing the newcomer MS Dhoni after he had dropped the catch of Shahid Afridi.
Restaurateur Bhanu Nehra is Ashish Nehra's cousin brother.
