Akash Deep
He was born on 11 December 1996 into a middle-class family to Ramji Singh, a physical education teacher in a government school, and his wife Ladduma Devi in Baddi village of Rohtas district in Bihar, India. 1 2
His actual date of birth is 11 December 1996, but most of the websites have incorrectly mentioned it as 15 December 1996. 3 4 2
His father never wanted him to become a cricketer and instead wanted him to secure a government job. In 2010, he left for Durgapur, West Bengal where his uncle worked at the Durgapur Steel Plant and joined a local academy with his cousin Baibhaw Kumar who also wanted to pursue cricket as a career. However, things changed completely when tragedy struck twice within six months which forced him out of the game for three years. First, he lost his father who was paralyzed and bed-ridden for five years before breathing his last on 12th February 2015, and then in October 2015, his elder brother Dhiraj passed away following a brief illness, leaving behind two young school-going daughters and wife. After Dhiraj’s death, Akash Deep briefly experimented with the business of selling sand by renting dumpers near the Sone River at the Bihar-Jharkhand border. 5 6
A friend helped him join the United Club in CAB’s Second Division League, but initially, he was not paid anything by the club. So, he used to play tennis-ball matches around the district for three to four days a month, which helped him earn around ₹20,000 per month to cover his expenses. 1
In October 2017, he bought a brand new Royal Enfield Classic 350. 7

Six months later, he made his List A debut for Bengal against Gujarat at Jaipur on 24th September 2019 in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he registered figures of 2/49. 9
Akash Deep made his first-class debut for Bengal against Andhra at Eden Gardens on 25 December 2019 in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy. 10
In November 2020, he bought a brand new Tata Nexon car. 11

However, he had to leave the RCB squad after he lost his aunt and sister-in-law during the COVID-19 second wave. His mother was also tested positive. 12 13
Akash Deep was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore at his base price of ₹20 lakhs in the player auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Punjab Kings (PK) on 27 March 2022 in Mumbai, where he registered figures of 1/38. 14 15
In June 2022, Bengal rewrote record books when its nine players hit 50-plus runs against Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy 2021-2022 quarter-final. It was the first-ever instance of nine players recording at least fifty runs in a first-class innings. Batting at No.9, Akash Deep completed his half-century laden with eight sixes in just 18 balls and in the process recorded the joint third-fastest fifty in the Ranji Trophy. 16
