Nagma Sadanah is an Indian actress and politician known for films like Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990), Yalgaar (1992), King Uncle (1993), Suhaag (1994), Kadhalan (1994) and Baashha (1995).
She was born on 25 December 1974 as Nandita Morarji to textile businessman Arvind Morarji and Shama Kazi in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her parents got divorced a few years later and remarried.
Her mother Shama Kazi got married to film producer Chander Sadanah and changed her name to Seema Sadanah. She has 2 daughters, Jyothika Sadanah & Radhika Sadanah and a son, Suraj Sadanah from her second marriage.
Shama Kazi is a Maharashtrian Muslim belonging to the Kazi freedom fighter family.
Her father Arvind Morarji married Sapna and has two sons, Dhanraj Morarji and Yuvraj Morarji from his second marriage.
Arvind Morarji was a Parsi by birth and his birth name was Irwin Khambhatta. His mother got married to Gokuldas Morarji and he was adopted by him and given the name Arvind. He passed away on 31 December 2005.
Nagma was born to a Hindu father and a Muslim mother but identifies herself as a Christian.
She did her schooling from Mount Mary Convent High School in Mumbai and later did Bachelor of Commerce from National College, Mumbai University.
Nagma made her acting debut in Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990) opposite Salman Khan. The film was a commercial success and was seventh highest-grossing film of 1990.
She has acted in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali and Mandarin language films.
In 2005, Dawood Ibrahim's henchman Jamiruddin Ansari aka Jumbo reportedly told the police that Nagma was Dawood's brother Anees Ibrahim's mistress. Jamiruddin added that he once delivered a packet containing INR 10 lakh to Nagma's house as a 'Hawala Transaction'. Nagma denied links with the underworld and called it a political conspiracy.
Nagma starred in several bhojpuri movies between 2005 to 2008 and won Best Actress award at Bhojpuri Film Awards for Dulha Milal Dildar (2005) & Ganga (2006).
Nagma joined Indian National Congress in 2014 and contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Meerut as Congress candidate but came a distant 4th securing only 42,911 votes and lost her deposit. She was appointed the general secretary of All India Mahila Congress in 2015.
Actor Kamal Sadanah is her cousin as her step-father Chander Sadanah and Kamal's father Brij Sadanah are brothers.
Actress Vineeta Goel known for Janam Janam (1988), Zahreelay (1990) and Hum Hai Raahi CAR Ke (2013) is her cousin as Vineeta's mother Rajkumari Sadanah Goel is Chander Sadanah's sister. Vineeta was married to Vikram Razdan and has a daughter, Riva Razdan and a son, Rayan Razdan with him.
The movie Julie 2 (2017) starring Raai Laxmi is said to be based on the life of Nagma.
